Taru is currently undertaking her PhD at Monash University on the topic of ‘Impact of Shared Modes on Travel Behaviour in Melbourne’.  Her PhD is partially funded by Public Transport Victoria as part of the Sustainable and Effective Public Transport (SEPT) Graduate Research Industry Partnership (GRIP). She has been working as an Assistant Professor in the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi since 2009, and is currently on study leave to pursue her PhD.

A former Commonwealth scholar, she is a trained urban and transport planner and likes to work in both areas. In addition to teaching she has worked on several research projects in diverse subjects such as gender and transport, children’s right to the city, affordable housing planning and provision and planning education. She has worked on several international projects, for ISOCARP, UN Habitat and other organisations, in India, UK, Australia, UAE and China and loves to experience new places and new subjects.
