Taru is a PhD graduate from Monash University. Her research project was ‘Impact of Shared Modes on Travel Behaviour in Melbourne’, partially funded by the Department of Transport (Victoria) as part of the Sustainable and Effective Public Transport (SEPT) Graduate Research Industry Partnership (GRIP). She also worked as an Assistant Professor of Planning in the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi from 2009 to 2019.

A former Commonwealth scholar, she is a trained urban and transport planner and likes to work in both areas. In addition to teaching she has worked on several research projects in diverse subjects such as gender and transport, children’s right to the city, affordable housing planning and provision and planning education. She has worked on several international projects, for ISOCARP, UN Habitat and other organisations, in India, UK, Australia, UAE and China and loves to experience new places and new subjects.
